Why calorie calculators are estimates

Useful starting numbers without fake precision.

The short answer

Equations estimate resting needs and activity; your average weight trend reveals whether that estimate is close enough for you.

Where the uncertainty comes from

Daily movement changes, food labels and portions contain error, and energy expenditure adapts over time. Debating whether an activity multiplier should be 1.33 or 1.37 creates precision the inputs cannot support.

The useful way to use a calculator

Choose a reasonable estimate, follow it for two or three weeks and compare weekly averages. If the direction is wrong, make a small change. The goal is not to discover a perfect metabolic number; it is to find an intake you can use.

Remember: Do not worship the calculator. Test it.
