Recovery, soreness and missed workouts
What matters between sessions and how to return after disruption.
The short answer
Sleep, adequate food, sensible effort and returning to the next scheduled workout matter more than elaborate recovery routines or punishment for missed sessions.
Soreness is not the score
Soreness is influenced strongly by novelty and usually falls as movements become familiar. A lack of soreness does not mean the workout failed. Severe soreness that disrupts normal life or the next session is mainly a cost.
Missing a workout creates no debt
Do not combine sessions, add sets or cut food to compensate. Continue with the next workout. After a week away, use the previous loads but leave two or three repetitions in reserve during the first session back.
Remember: Consistency is the ability to return quickly, not the absence of interruptions.
