Why the first six weeks are different
Learning technique and effort before chasing failure.
The short answer
The adaptation phase teaches equipment setup, repeatable technique and judgement of effort before hard training makes mistakes more costly.
A gradual approach to effort
Beginners improve quickly, but they cannot yet reliably distinguish muscular fatigue from poor coordination or a changing setup. The same exercises return frequently so technique becomes familiar instead of resetting every week.
- Weeks 1-2: stop with about four clean repetitions available.
- Weeks 3-4: stop with about two or three available.
- Weeks 5-6: stop with about one or two available.
What success looks like at week six
You can set up each exercise without confusion, repeat a consistent range, recognise when repetitions begin to slow, stop before technique changes and record every work set honestly.
Remember: Maximum strength is not tested. Competence is the goal.
