Why the logbook matters
How a few numbers replace guesswork and programme hopping.
The short answer
The logbook tells you what you did, what to attempt next and whether a plateau is real.
Record only what changes a decision
Record the exercise, machine setup when useful, load, repetitions and effort. Add one short note when technique or discomfort matters. This takes less than a minute and prevents months of vague training.
A bad day is not a plateau
Sleep, stress, meals and ordinary variation affect performance. Repeat the movement next time. A plateau becomes useful information after roughly three similar exposures without improvement.
Remember: Change the programme when a pattern appears, not when one session disappoints you.
